Imagination Boxes aim to give kids the tools to use their imagination to create and engage in a range of activities—building vehicles, writing stories, comic books, producing plays, creating dances… by providing kids with an empty box (blank canvas!), a set of maps, guide book, and equipment/utensils to inspire them to create.

Character Design

We started by creating a set of “explorer” characters to inhabit the box and maps, and guide kids through the process of imagination and exploration.

The first in a planned series of boxes, the Explorer box includes four maps and a “guidebook,” as well as materials for building, drawing, and creating.

Guidebook

The guidebook is filled with pages for kids to write, draw, and plan—with prompts like “where do you want to go?” and “what do you want to take?"

Maps

The maps are intended to inspire kids, showing them examples of things they can make and build—houses, spaceships, cars, submarines, airplanes, sailboats…

A box isn’t just a box… it’s a space shuttle, fire engine, house, dungeon, computer, space station, bus, fortress…
