UDL-IRN is the Universal Design for Learning Implementation and Research Network, whose mission is to support the design of future-ready learning environments that are equitable, beneficial, and meaningful for all learners. Each year they hold an international summit for education stakeholders to come together to discuss new research and best practices, in order to continue to improve and optimize teaching and learning for all people.
I worked with them to create a visual identity for their 2019 summit, held in Orlando, Florida.
Logo Design
Education has long been represented by an apple, while the summit location (Orlando, Florida), has long been represented by an orange. And just like “apples to oranges",” different learning styles cannot and should not be compared and thus require flexible learning environments, which represent’s UDL-IRN’s mission.
The conference identity incorporated these apple and orange elements — apple leaves, seeds, orange slices—in an abstract, flexible geometric system that is structured, but also bright and educator-friendly.
Using this system, we created a full range of conference collateral—name tags, signs, programs, etc.
